Experience Marshall Miller is CEO and Chairman of Marshall Miller & Associates, an engineering and geological consulting firm he established in Bluefield, Virginia in 1975. Today, the company now maintains 11 offices in 9 states and 200 employees; and maintains active projects in China, South America, India, Australia, and Canada. The company represents one of the largest engineering consulting firms operating in the Appalachian Region, is the sixth largest based in Virginia, and was recognized by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce as among the Fantastic Fifty as one of the fifty fastest growing companies based in Virginia.

After achieving his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geology at West Virginia University, his career involved: two years with Schlumberger Well Services in the Midwest; four years in coal research in Charlottesville, Virginia with the Virginia Division of Mineral Resources; and two years with Norfolk and Southern.s Pocahontas Land Company in mineral land management and exploration. He then established his own engineering and geological consulting firm near his hometown of Bluefield, West Virginia in 1976.

He was recognized in 1993 by Ernest and Young, Merrill Lynch, and Inc. Magazine as Entrepreneur of the Year in the Atlantic Region. Later, for his extensive research work in the Appalachian Region, he received both Regional and National Distinguished Member Awards of the Society of Mining Engineers and was also inducted in the West Virginia Coal of Fame by the West Virginia Coal Association and West Virginia Coal Institute.

Throughout his career, he has authored many professional publications dealing primarily with mining, geology, and development of fossil fuel resources; and water and environmental studies. This past year at West Virginia University, he was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame by the WVU School of Business and Economics; and also received the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni by the College of Arts and Sciences. And this past week, received his honorary PhD (Doctor of Science Degree) in Geology at the WVU graduation ceremonies.
